Based on the presentation there are four main Use Cases of CMIS:

The software is built on the Google Web Toolkit. This allows them to build an interface quickly, and most importantly to separate the backend, repository-specific functionality from the user interface, which allowed the user interface to be reusable for multiple repository types. CARA3 provides full authoring, review, approval and publishing functionality to end users together with.

Coming soon – iCARA – single app for iPhones, Android phone and Blackberries to access any CMIS repository such as Documentum, SharePoint, Alfresco, LiveLink, FileNet and others.

We’ve presented our new CMIS module for the Web Content Management System FirstSpirit.
This module is called “DMS connect” and is responsible for the connection to the repositories of Sharepoint and Alfresco using CMIS. The module helps to easily publish documents to websites.

I showed this module to several people. Almost all of them thought that this will bring a big benefit to their publication process.

Since the CeBIT I am really sure that CMIS will become a big success!

ARITHNEA just released a new module for the High-End Content Management System FirstSpirit ™ called DMS connect.

DMS connect uses CMIS to connect to different Document Management Systems. The module successfully works with Sharepoint 2010 and Alfresco 3.2. Not all CMIS features have been implemented yet. Within the next weeks it will also be tested against the Nuxeo repository that already offers CMIS. The module is meant to work with all CMIS compliant DMS. This will be tested as soon those repositories are available.

It is possible to connect to more than one repository with this module. The editors can choose which repository they want to access (red section). This can be easily switched through a drop-down list.

With this module the online editors have direct access to the DMS. They can directly choose the files they want to publish to the website. There is no need anymore to copy documents to the internal media store. This way the document management process stays within the DMS and the editorial process stays in the CMS. This makes web publishing with documents much more efficient.

The module will be presented for the first time at CeBIT in Hannover.

Other ECM systems can also be supported through JSR 170.

With the coming CMIS adapter, its user-friendly applications will be interoperable with almost every ECM system and usable even for almost every cross-repository scenario. The WeWebU OpenWorkdesk for CMIS will be available in the first half of 2010 with only short delay after the finalization of the CMIS specification by OASIS.
